When you’re at the Australian Open of Surfing, be sure to take your eyeballs for a stroll past the Art Wall.
Nine super-talented, Sydney-based artists with ties to the surf and skate scenes have accepted invitations to participate during the event.
Each day, our guest artist has free license to get creative on a section of the wall … they can do, create, paint and draw whatever they want!
They’ll also get a brand new – white – surfboard to use as a canvas.
“What’s in it for me?” you ask?
Well, in addition the impact the art has on your consciousness (which is yours to keep) you can also enter the photo competition. Yeew!
Shoot a photo of the wall (whatever section you like the best) post it to Twitter & Instagram at #AUSOpenOfSurf and if your pic is chosen as coolest, you will receive that section of the wall as a prize!
The great Art Wall is located opposite the Beach Bowl and you can watch the artists get creative as they do their thing.
Here’s a list of contributing artists and the dates you can see them:
Invited Artists:
- Chris Yee and Barrett Myles (Saturday Feb 11th)
- Cam Wall (Sunday Feb 12th)
- Ozzie & Otis (Monday Feb 13th)
- Ben Brown (Tuesday Feb 14th) (same dude who did the Beach Bowl art!)
- Rad Dan (Wednesday Feb 15th)
- Laura Ives (Thursday Feb 16th)
- Paul Mcneil (Friday Feb 17th)
- Damian Horan (Saturday Feb 18th)
The completed surfboards will be auctioned at the end of the event.
Thanks heaps to Surfection Co-op!
*there’s actually 10 or 11 artists, but the title looked more eye catching repeating the number ‘9’. Yeew.
